MartBids was launched by the Irish Farmers Journal in 2017 in partnership with livestock marts. Initially, MartBids was used as a tool to catalogue animals for sale in participating marts, allowing potential buyers to view the animals prior to and while auctions were live.

When COVID-19 restrictions hit in 2020, MartBids was further developed as a live bidding and viewing tool to allow marts to continue to operate.
